IQMF 2020 KICKS OFF!

International Queer & Migrant FilmFestival 2020 kicked off with a panel talk on homonationalism. Maruf-director Dino Suhonic, filmmaker Hakim Atoui and David Vig from Amnesty Hungary took part in a lively talk, moderated by IQMF director Chris Belloni.

What was the talk about? Inclusivity and LGBT rights are often framed as western values or specific to a certain country (homonationalism).

This year we discussed homonationalism in the European perspective and zoomed in on how homonationalism is used as an instrument for islamophobia and exclusion. Filmmaker Hakim Atoui and sociologist Dino Suhonic reflected on homonationalism in Western Europe by analyzing the film La Première March. Amnesty International Hungary director David Vig reflected on the current situation in Hungary and to what extent the EU influences or dictates human rights issues.
